St.John’s Cathedral and Caravaggio’s work of art

You will be mesmerized by the beauty once you step inside this Co-Cathedral. Dedicated to St. John the patron saint of the Knights of the Order, the Co-Cathedral is a feast for the eyes beginning from the tombstone flooring that has been described as one of the most beautiful floors in the world to the barrel-vaulted ceiling, work of Mattia Preti and the side chapels that are dedicated to different languages of the order containing marvelous funerary monuments of different Grandmasters. The apex of this visit would be the two works of art of Michelangelo Merisi known as Caravaggio- that of St. Jerome and the beheading of St. John. A visit to this Co-Cathedral is a must!

Birgu – Citta Vittoriosa

Birgu the city where the Knights of the order of St. John decided to settle when they arrived in Malta in 1530. A fortified city and one of the three cities (Birgu, Bormla and Isla) made up of quiet alleys with traditional Maltese houses some with brightly colored balconies and beautiful door knockers. Birgu’s streets are embellished with potted plants put there by the residents themselves showing pride and care towards their historic city. With every single step you take in Birgu you will encounter perfect subjects for photography from door knockers, street niches, monuments, churches and panoramic view of the harbour.
